For hundreds of years, Black Americans have endured a history of slavery, lynching, segregation, grossly unequal treatment by the justice system, demeaning depictions in popular culture, and an enforced status as second-class citizens in their own country. To this day, Black Americans find themselves targeted for harassment and violence while jogging, having a barbecue, sitting in a coffee shop, and other mundane activities.
As a house of The Sisters or Perpetual Indulgence Inc. we agree and stand with The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence who have officially come out with a press release.
THE SISTERS OF PERPETUAL INDULGENCE UNITED AGAINST RACISM AND POLICE BRUTALITY
SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA - The deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breanna Taylor, as well as the implicit threat of “death by cop” leveled at Christian Cooper, are only the latest in a long list of instances which remind us how far America is from its promise of providing social justice and equal opportunity for all.

No one should ever fear death at the hands of an officer of the law, and yet once again, we are subjected to horrific spectacles… the most recent being the video of George Floyd handcuffed on the ground pleading for his life, before dying with a white police officer’s knee on his neck. And no one should have law enforcement perverted into a racist, weaponized threat against them, as happened to Christian Cooper.
For more than forty years, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc. have stood for justice and equality for all but try as we have— as so many have— we still live in a nation where intolerable instances of racism, large and small, happen every day. Clearly, we need to do more. This is a time for us to look deep into our hearts, to question our own attitudes, our actions and lack of actions, to find new ways we might come together, stand up, and make our society live up to its promise. Black lives matter.
There is so much beauty in the world. Love will triumph. But the battle is far from over.
